Calu Fontes
Calu Fontes: Layers, contours, and reliefs
The work is divided into two volumes joined by a transparent dust jacket with gold printing. In the first book, the design explores the textures of objects created by artist Calu Fontes, from clay to ceramics. Broken, cracked, or imperfect parts were not discarded but rather incorporated into the work. Additionally, clippings from an illustrated diary reinforce the representation of letters and added graphics, not only for their poetic meaning but also for the aesthetic construction of the word as a graphic element.
In the second book, an even more experimental process is observed, presenting the artist’s graphic works. In a return to the essential, Calu uses papers, stamps, graph paper, watercolor, and ink, as illustrations give way to collage. The cutouts in the page design allow the drawings to extend onto the following page. Volumetric contrasts, in harmony with the vibrant tones, create a visual rhythm guided by chromatic vibrations.
