Sangue Negro–the debut album by Pernambuco-born pianist Amaro Freitas–translates cultural expressions from Brazil’s Northeast, such as frevo, baião, maracatu, ciranda, and maxixe, into jazz.

The cover design features an outline typeface layered over the musician’s face. At first glance, the artist’s name and the album title stand out; on a second look, the face of Amaro Freitas gradually comes into focus.
